Believe it or not, one of the most frequent questions people ask me is whether their pets go to heaven. The loss of a pet can be much more painful than people realize. It’s understandable that we want to know our beloved furry friends are still there in spirit. As a psychic medium, I have had so many experiences receiving messages from animals that my answer is a resounding “yes”! Pets absolutely go to heaven.
Animal spirits, like human spirits, come around to check on us and to let us know that they are okay. Pets are our close companions in life. We spend our days with them by our side, exchanging unconditional love. This love doesn’t disappear after their passing! In fact, many people who have had near-death experiences say that their pets were the first spirits there to welcome them when they crossed over to the other side.
Receiving messages from pets can happen at any time, but it’s a little different than making contact with a human spirit. Animals communicate without language, after all! When I make contact with an animal spirit, I’ll often receive its name, favorite activities, and even see some of its toys. I’ve learned that pets are so much more aware of us than we sometimes realize. They yearn to be near us, their human friends, even after they are gone, so we can be confident that they are okay and still love us very much.
A few years ago, I had my own experience with the loss of a pet. After an evening of watching fireworks, my beautiful cat Otis passed away a little after we came home. I was so grateful to have had the opportunity to be there, as heart wrenching as it was to witness. Otis was a wonderful, kind pet and a loving companion. My family and I still feel the pain of his loss, and we miss him very much. Despite the hurt, though, I know that he is okay, and at times I can still feel his loving presence!
If you have lost a pet, please know that it is okay to mourn that loss. Animals are a big part of our lives. Give yourself time to grieve and to remember all of the love and affection your pet brought into your life. Some people aren’t animal lovers and will never understand what a deep connection you had with your pet. Don’t let anybody tell you that your loss isn’t real, or that it was “just” an animal. Those of us who are “animal people” know that our pets are manifestations of complete unconditional love, and losing the physical presence of that love is a big deal.
But just because your pet isn’t physically there anymore doesn’t mean the unconditional love goes away. The beautiful souls of our pets absolutely continue to exist! Animals love to come around and check on us to make sure we’re okay. Just as how in heaven, we will have the joy of reuniting with our beloved family and friends, we’ll also get to be with our precious pets again. So do pets go to heaven? Of course! It wouldn’t be heaven otherwise.
How can you reconnect with a pet you’ve lost? Take a few quiet moments to reflect on your pet — his or her personality, favorite games or toys, and distinguishing features — and ask for a sign. Before you know it, you’ll realize that the spirit of your beloved pet is still with you. Your pet is free and happy, and would want you to be the same!
